What we store
We hold onto your username, email, and a scrambled version of your password. We keep the messages you send and the names you give rooms, since those live in our database. When you pay, the payment goes through Stripe, so we never see your full card number. We just note what you paid for so we know which rooms are yours. We also log basic technical things like your IP and browser, which is normal stuff that keeps the site up and secure.
That's all we need to run a chat site, so that's all we bother with.
Chats are not private or encrypted
Tollchat is not end-to-end encrypted. Your messages and room names sit in our database, and anyone in a room with you can read what you post. We can read or remove content too if we have to, whether that's to keep the site working, deal with someone being awful, or follow the law.
So please don't post anything you wouldn't want sitting in a database. No passwords, card numbers, ID numbers, that sort of thing.
Who else sees it
We don't sell your data. The only outsiders involved are the companies that help run the site, like our host and payment provider, or law enforcement if something has really gone wrong.
Your choices
If you want to see what we have on you, fix something, or delete your account, email us at [email protected] and we'll take care of it.
Cookies
A couple, mostly to keep you logged in and remember your settings.
Age
You have to be at least 18 to use Tollchat.
Changes
If we change this, we'll bump the date at the top.
